Workshop Descriptions
Friday
Session 1: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
1. You CAN Do Unit Studies
(Steve Lambert - A, E)
Unit studies remain the mystery of education. Stories abound about how “natural” and “effective” unit studies are in education ? but it’s a topic fi lled with anxiety for many parents. Are unit studies that hard to prepare? How do I know I’ve “covered everything”? Is every subject appropriate for unit study? What if I’m trying to do a “classical model”? Can unit studies be integrated with textbooks and workbooks? Am I better off buying an “off-the-shelf” unit study, or can I learn to create my own? Is my student too young (or too old) for unit studies? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this popular workshop.
2. Why Home School Through
High School?
(Jay Wile - A, Y)
Home schooling parents are often faced with a difficult decision when their children reach high school age.Typically, the parents feel that they are just not able to teach the more demanding courses which are required at the high school level. As a result, many parents feel that they must send their children to school for a proper high school education. In this seminar, Dr.Jay L.Wile, a former assistant professor of chemistry at Ball State University and Indiana University, will explain why such a decision is not in the best interest of the student.
3. The Four Deadly Errors
of Teaching Writing
(Andrew Pudewa - A)
We’ve all suffered it at one time or another. Frustration about writing assignments. Either on the receiving end, or perhaps now on the giving end, there can be a few distinctly discouraging aspects to teaching and being taught writing. The tough questions include: What to correct and how to give a grade? How much help is too much? Isn’t the assignment clear enough? Why don’t students find their own errors? Learn and avoid four teaching mistakes that contribute to this frustration: Overcorrecting, Holding Back Help, Unclear Assignments, and Over-Expectation.
4. Family Unity
(Ray and Donna Reish - BP)
Ray and Donna Reish share how they have developed family unity in their family of seven children through family togetherness, family worship, family times, family work, family protection, and more. Lots of practical applications to make your children each others’ best friends - and to make them crazy about their parents!
5. Great Deception
(Joshua Reish - A, Y)
Any idea, philosophy, or suggestion that is not consistent with what God’s Word tells us about science, the past, government, and even life, will fail. Joshua Reish, a home school graduate with a history degree, will share how the history of communism, from its early foundation prior to Marx through its collapse in the Soviet Union, influenced societies with disastrous consequences. Millions were deceived into thinking that communism would bring about peace and equality because they did not measure its teachings against the Bible. Listeners will learn how to discern truth by looking at suggested ideas - both simple and vast - and comparing them with God’s Word.
6. Getting Back On Track!
How Do I Get It All Done?
(Kathie Morrissey - M, E)
Have changes in your circumstances (such as sickness, a new baby, moving, etc.) caused you to get off track? Or are you just struggling to “get it all done” everyday, get your kids back in line, and your home schooling rolling smoothly again? Where do you start? 10. Confidence To Begin The Journey
(Steve Lambert - GS, E)
Most beginning home schoolers are overwhelmed by the “bigness” of the task before them. In today’s home school market there is no lack of “information” but there is often a lack of inspiration. Steve Lambert’s most popular workshop combines the wisdom gleaned from more than 17 years of home schooling and the perspectives of a grandfather whose children are grown and married with families of their own now. You’ll come away feeling not only good about the choice you’ve made but confident about your ability to be successful.
11. Teaching The Jr. High and Sr. High School Sciences At Home
(Jay Wile - A, Y)
This seminar explains how any parent can help his or her children learn science at the upper levels. As a former university and high school teacher,Dr.Wile has experienced first-hand the failure of our public school system. As a result, he is a staunch advocate of home schooling a student all the way through the high school years. Dr. Wile will discuss curriculum choices and techniques that will make it possible for the home schooling parent to provide a quality science education for his or her children.

Solve the “How long does it have to be?” problem. Never again hear yourself say, “Don’t you want to add a little more detail?” With confidence and precision, you can design and communicate to your children goal and model-based writing assignments and have a concrete tool to objectively evaluate their efforts.

Donna Reish examines two extremes of parenting babies in home school circles: child run and authoritarian (extreme parent-controlled). Donna offers a gentle balance between the two for the newborn baby and how to keep babies and toddlers from becoming self-centered children, self-absorbed teens, and selfish adults. She explains how she and her husband gently incorporated babies and toddlers into their home school lifestyle - while still meeting the needs of the other children - without falling into the trap of either extreme.

Source Of Modern Science
(Jay Wile - A, Y)
In this lecture, Dr. Wile examines many of the rules and regulations found in the Old Testament and demonstrates how these rules are in perfect agreement with our most modern scientific knowledge. Dr. Wile shows how the rules regarding circumcision are based on medical knowledge that has only been uncovered within the last 30 years. He shows that the Bible knew about germs long before people know of them and that the Bible was the first document to contain modern ideas of sanitation. This lecture makes it clear that the Bible was NOT authored by men!
22. Teaching Boys And Other Children Who Would Rather Make Forts All Day
(Andrew Pudewa - M, E)
Children like to do what they can do; they want to do what they think they can do, and they hate to do what they think they cannot do. 27. Rules Of The Road For Relationships
(Joy Nuesken and Jeannie Bauer - BP, Y)
Life really can be compared to a highway. When children are young, parents are in charge and make all of the decisions; it’s like taking a scenic drive on a sunny autumn day with just a few hills to surmount. The high school years usually seems like the German autobahn! Life starts changing ‘fast and furious’ and it’s up to parents to learn how to downshift and change gears. High school is all about becoming a mentor to your students and putting them in the driver’s seat of their own education. Come hear how these moms have been led by God to grow into adult relationships with their kids.
28. Free Car For Life - Part 1
(Barry Hardy - Y)
Statistics tell us that 19% of all bankruptcies are filed by people under age 25, high school seniors averaged only 52.4% on a basic financial literacy survey, and only 34% of teenagers know how to balance a checkbook. But there is good news too! By far the majority of teens do want to learn how to make their money grow, how to pay their bills, stay out of debt, and not have to rely on others for money. In this workshop our goal is to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to make sound financial decisions for life, BEFORE you get bitten by the credit shark. 31. The Influence Of Music On Life
Part 1
(Andrew Pudewa - A, Y)
Music has become such an ever-present influence in our daily life, we seldom stop to consider what effect it has on us. But we must. As we changed over the last 100 years, from being music “makers” to music “consumers,” we have gradually lost control over, and even awareness of, our auditory environment. In what way is music beneficial to our bodies and minds? In what circumstances can it actually be harmful? Solid scientific research provides some astounding answers to such questions - indeed, facts that must not be ignored by today’s parents and children.

Few of us begin home schooling with a vision for finishing the race. But months turn into years and we find ourselves looking at the last few years of home schooling. What do we need to know to get our children into college or the career of their choice? Perhaps more importantly - what do we do after they’re gone? If the “empty nest” is a problem for more families, it can be overwhelming for a home schooling family. Learn about “life after home schooling” and how to begin making plans now for that inevitable season. Prepare your students - and prepare yourself for finishing the race.

The Environmentalist Movement
(Jay Wile - Y)
In this seminar, Dr. Wile discusses the facts related to the environmental debate that is currently raging in America. He does not engage in the emotional hysteria which typically surrounds this topic. Instead, he gives a cool, scientific appraisal of the environmental situation today and shows that, in fact, most of the environmentalists’ claims are completely devoid of scientific merit. As you listen to this seminar, you will be amazed at the distortions and lies which the environmentalists and their willing accomplices in the media have reported!
41. The Influence Of Music On Life
Part 2
(Andrew Pudewa - A, Y)
Picking up from where “The Profound Influence of Music on Life” talk leaves off, this presentation uses musical samples to help listeners learn to hear more actively, both to gain the most out of their listening experience,as well as to encourage “defensive” listening and teach their children to listen with greater discernment as well. Musical selections of baroque, classical, folk, and popular genres are played and discusses with the goal of helping listeners identify and understand the significance of rhythm, harmony, melody, repetition, syncopation, pattern and complexity. Without saying, “this is good, this is bad,” Mr. Pudewa presents a unique perspective on the question of whether all music is equally beneficial to the Christian.
42. Raising Children With Godly Character And A Love For The Lord
Part 3
(Ray and Donna Reish - BP, E)

Often, as mothers, we are unconsciously instilling a rebellious attitude in our little ones that is revealed in their teen years. Biblical answers will be given as to how to deal with rebellion, as well as things to avoid that may cause rebellion.

In this workshop you will learn to teach your children how to handle money while they are young (starting at 3 years old), so that they won’t make costly mistakes later in life. We will discuss how to transform your child’s future by teaching them the value of earning money by working and we will also cover fun and effective ways to instruct your child in saving, giving, spending, and how to be millionaires when they retire and live with NO DEBT. Money matters are a major source of stress in many families, so come and learn how to get mom, dad, and the kids all on the same page financially. It’s never too late to start!
